Seasonal Affective Disorder?
What is SAD? Seasonal affective disorder is not common in sunny Queensland but often we see more cases of depression in late winter and early spring. Low sunlight, low activity and reduced social contact can lead to increasing the risk of depression. Depression can be prevented by increasing winter sun exposure. Try drinking your cup of tea outside in your work breaks. A couple of minutes here and there can help. Take a walk outside instead of the treadmill inside. Maybe take the dog for walk or visit the beach for a weekend lunch. Don’t let the reduce sunlight get to you, just plan more time outside!

Trauma Counselling
How does trauma counselling work? Trauma counselling can be helpful when symptoms such as nightmares, anxiety or flashbacks are pervasive and affect day to day functioning. Trauma symptoms occur to protect us from things that might be harmful, but unfortunately some things that can become triggers for trauma or anxiety that affect us and make us feel out of control in places like work, at home, while sleeping or when we have close relationships. Trauma counselling works by learning about what happened and what it is we fear. Sometimes it can be a smell, a sound, an image or a sensation that might affect cause a panic or anxiety reaction. By talking through a trauma with a trained therapist, you will gain freedom from many of the triggers and find new ways to manage anxiety or panic reactions. Over time the anxiety and reactions reduce and often there are some changes that will occur to improve the feeling of safety or support.
